At the auction Bale in the Square on •Saturday night a (baby's knitted jacket (made and donated by Mrs Rcid) realised the large sum of £12 Is. The Queen Carnival Fund is consequently the richer by that amount. Mr N. Kirkcaldio's offer to contribute £100 to tho Queen Patriotic Fund conditionally on eight others contributing £50 each, already has secured for the fund one sum of £50 and the intimation that two or more iike amounts ■will be contributed by settlors. The first £50 contributed is that of Mr It. F. Blair, of Otaki. The name of Major Hurlinson was omitted from the list of names published in the Chronicle as members of the canvassing commit*© tor the Queen Carnival Fund. Major Burlinson was appointed convener of the committee and Mr W. Hughest chairman of all committees.
