THE FIVE-A-SIDE IOURN'AMENT. The five-a-side hockey tournament commenced last Wednesday on Levin park domain was concluded yesterday afternoon, when the three Levin teams met, and cacli team tried to act up to its theories and arguments ;that it was the best team. The theories and arguments lasted a week; tho practical part lasted ten minutes in one instance and about fifteen in the other. The first teams to meet were Levin A and Levin B. Those who knew said that the B's would win; they had the sting? But it turnod out'that th* B's were of the sort that do not stint and tliey gathered no goals. The game was even for a while and then Murray lor the A's secured the nrst goal. A few minutes later R. Pringlc got another goal for A's and the game ended ed A's two goals, B's mi, The next game, between the A's and C's was a fast and exciting game. Onlookers thought it would prove a walk over for the A team, but two or three minutes' play proved that the A's were going to have a rocky passage, and interest in the game was soon on edge. C's put up a fine fight against a stronger team and gave as good as they rc- * ceived in the way of attacks. The time allotted"7*ol- the game went by without any score, and seemed that perhaps the /oreMiU'-P..of the gy.me would give the C team a chance to win. They made a good attack and all but scored a goal. Their supporters set up a cheer; they thought they saw victory, but the referee did not, and the V'n supporters felt like the thirsty traveller in the desert who sees lakes and streams in the distance and finds it all a mirage.. A little later the C team gave a penalty hit to their opponents and with it the game. The end was a win for the A team by a penalty hit. Mr Shankland, of Shannon, was referee. tjmmmmam ■ - mmmmmtm '
