Cairo newspapers received to-day contain"the following official communique taken from the Press Bureau, issued from Army Headquarters : —On | Friday night a disturbance occurred in Sharia Wagh el BurTset. which resulted'in somewhat serious riots. Ab it is impossible to discover the reason for this outbreak an enquiry will be held Only soldiers were concerned, hut unfortunately oonsidei'SoTe damage was done to property in this street, which bears an unenviable reputation. A largo crowd of soldiers collected and considerable resistance was offered to the military police in their efforts to restore ordSr. Several pistol shots fired, and four men were wounded, besides others who were otherwise injured. A squadron of cavalry and strong pickets were quickly on tlie scene, and soon after 8 p.m. normal conditions were restored. The Are brigade and the civil police acted" with commendable- discretion and forbearance. Fifty soldiers were arrested. They will be dealt with under the ■iiiilitary law. BARCLAY HECTOR SENTENCED. Wellington. This Day.
