FiVE-A-SIDE TOURNAMENT. i'liQ lirtst match of the hockey season tot.k place the other week, but tiie official opening of the seaeou took place on Wednesday on the Levin Park Domain, when a iive-a-side tournament was played, and the officials of the Association bestowed their blessing on all and sundry. The tournament wae successful from every point of view, and particularly from the line. Twelve teams took part in it, and the number precluded the finals from being played will be played on {he park do.nain next week. The teams to play ;ff are the three Levin teams, A, B md C. The Otaki teams played well, especially the A team against the Levin A team, the latter winning by only i. penalty hit. The Otaki teams will hold a different position in the next tournament. A team from Paraparaiiinu played a good game against Levin B team but were defeated. The Association would do well to old these tournaments regularly; they ire preferred to the ordinary matches i.v the spectators, and a small charge it the gate would provide the means for obtaining goojl trophies and medals. There was a good attendance • )ii Wednesday; proof of the popularity of these tournaments. ' The next tournament, , however, should,-be started earlier, as it takes from the interest if the finale have ■ o be postponed as they were on Wednesday. The games played resulted:— First Round. Otaki College (1 goal) defeated Foxton "A (0). Levin A (4) defeated Shannon (0). Otaki B (1) defeated Fotxon B (0). Levin B (3) defeated Parparaumu (0) Levin C (1) defeated Tafnui (0). Otaki A (2) defeated Levin D (0). Second Round. Levin A (penalty hit) defeated Otaki A (0). Levin C. (penalty hit) defeated Otaki College (0). Levin B (1) defeated Otaki B (0).
