t iiizciis oi Levin and settlers of the : district will hare an opportunity totil evincing practical interest in a pal riiilic movement llmfc unfortunately ;- becoming a pressing one. In stirring times such as those of the last nine months there could be no difficulty in awakening enthusiasm for any | object to help forward the war for I'borty that is being waged, and the irviini experiences undergone by our empire in the last few weeks have ! .served to accentuate that feeling. Many desirable avenues have been opened up ! IV,r contributions by those, whose oppor- : trnities for personal service are remote ■ is- non-existent, and to all of these the ! responses have been liberal: but we ! dciht if any one object has arisen that ; i- move meritorious than the one now iin the forefront. That Levin and disI rict will rise to the occasion there is i'. < i-o<iii! for doubting. The Queen Carnival, arranged in 'Wellington last : m.intb. will supply an excellent oppor- ; (unity for practical benevolence. This '■ cMi-nival will be representative of the efforts of the whole of Wellington prov- ; ime. and the system by which money j will be derived from offerings of goods ; and other articles already has been described in The Ohronicie. lly making a groat success of the carnival the . people of this province will effect a i lasting good. The objects of the eau--1 nival are *e( out by resolution of the ; exox'iitivo committee ol the New Zea- ■ land Patriotic Society.
