Yesterday a Sydney storekeeper was fined £10 for selling a bushel of bran lit 3d above the price fixed. At the Christchureh Supreme Court in the charge against (Jeorge Maslin. (if alleged indecent exposure, where a verdict of not guilty was returned, the case for the defence was that accused was not acting indecently, but performing a natural function, made necessary by a certain weakness, and that from the position the girls occupied they could not have seen what was going on.--Press Association. It is certain that the recent Mornington Mayoral election did not advance the course of harmony and concord. When the returning officer told the electors, who hung upon his words, that Mr Sineock.'had been selected by vote for the olßce ot Chief Magistrate of the borough the successful candidate offered to shake hands with his less fortunate opopnent, but the defeated candidate twice declined the preferred advance, and later informed the electors present that his reason for so doing was that the election had not been cleanly fought. A case of interest to those who ply for hire in the Borough with sundry vehicles was decided in the Magistrate's Court. Levin, yesterday. The defendant. R .A. Sloan, was charged with an offence wmler JJy-law 30, relating to the ; ■ "ising of vehicles plying for hire, in that lie did within six month last past ply for hire with two unlicensed vehicles, contrary to the by-law referred to. The Town Clerk, who prosecuted, stated to the Court that there was acertain amount of dilatormess amongst owners of vehicles who plied for hir-r with regard to paying license fees, and it. was necessary to take some action. As this was the first information laid under the by-law, he asked the Court to impose only a nominal penalty. The Magistrate fined defendant Is, costs 7s. At yesterday's meeting of the Wellington flosiptal and Charitable Aid Hoard. Mr H. It. Gardener gave notice of the following motion :- "That the motion relating to the purchase of the Mangaroa farm be 7'oscinded. and that the whole question of purchasing a dairy farm for the supply of milk to the Wellington Hosiptal and its institutions be reconsidered.''-—A' letter conveying an invitation from Mv J. "Drysdale. manager, of the Weraroa Expermental Farm, to visit the modern dairy at the farm, was held over till next meeting. - The agents of the Mangaroa property stated that after the !Ust inst. ihe price of the property would be £0000. an increase of £500.— The letter was received. i ■■■■ ■—■—■-
