Barton Brothers' Circus. ♦ AND WILD AUSTRALIA. 'Jliis papular amusement enterprise appears in Luviu next J' rklay evening; and at Shannon on Thursday evening with a programme which .s entirely new sikl replete. The combination of star performer* secured for tit is occasion is claimed lo be one of the, best yet introduced under one circus management. There are forty people with the pies- , out show, including some sensational talent. Tlie "Wellington 'Limes, commenting on tin- performance, say's: A.s was expected tin's popular circus management was greeted by packed audiences during its season More. Barton iri.tl'Ts appear to have gauged the public tasto for amusement to a nicety. The excellence of the entertainment presented on former visits created a favourable impression, and the reputation.of the firm was more than upheld I v the now programme submitted on I this occasion. The 'show Throughout" is cleanly conducted, and the only noticeable, feature in the lengthy pro- | gramme was the absence of dull moments." The Hascheck Concert I're.ssiire on our space precludes any extended notice of the concert given in Levin last night (Tuesday) by Mr Joseph Blascheck and Miss Alyce Austin. Briefly summarised, the concert may be written of as meritorious. If the tang of musical-hall humour was in parts, it must he said that that (pud-* ity lias its pleasing aspects, and that the characteristic of vulgarity wa.s kept out of the songs and allusions. Tn the deeper sketches Jlr Blascheek was impressive; notably in "The Day." while the veins of alternate pathos and light comedy permeating such sketches as "His First Long Trousers" were excellently conveyed by hfm. Miss Alyce I Austin's versatility equals that of Mr Hlaschcek. and her ability as a pianist is superb. I Wellington, May 5. Indications are for south-easterly, condHious. moderate to strong winds prevailing. Changeable and showery weather may he expected at times. The night will probably be very cold. The barometer has a rising tendency. D. C. HATES, Government Meteorologist.
