BELGIAN RELIEF SPORfES.
1# The Belgian Relief Sports which were c | held on the racecourse on Wednesday ie were very successful, although- the „. weather -was somewhat bad. A cloudy ; t morning was succeeded by a fine day, , but rain fell about 3.30 p.m. and t brought the sports to an end sooner r than was expected. There was a good f crowd of spectators and £18 lie was taken at the gates and about £15 at the tea rooms. The following are 0 the results of the principal events:— 0 Tilting at the ring (prize a gold medal - given by Mr Davies and a trophy by t Mr McKinnon).—W. Galloway 1, j. 7 Murray 2. Best place kick.—H. Graham 1. Best drop kick.—W. Moye nihan. Turning competition (Mr Seiii fort's trophy).—T. Moynihan 1. Pony v race (Mr Beech's trophy).—Mr G. ? Pickard 1. Hook acted as secretary and treasurer, and. the judges were Messrs Makin, Wmiata and L. McDonald. Hie proceedings were enlivened by the excellent music discoursed by the Industrial School Band. The Belgian Relief Spouts wound "P with a. dance in the Druids' Hall - m the evening, when, notwithstanding . the counter attraction of the dramatic performance at the Gillandia Hall, there was a good attendance. The troplnes won during the sports were presented. They included a handsome cup glV en by the Maoris of Shannon, ifle dance music was provided iby Mr ■K-nyvett (piano) and Mr H Hook (violin). Mr J.
