The Hawke's Bay Oup meeting opened to-day in glorious weather. The attendance is good and the track 'n perfect order. Results:— Longlands Hurdles.'—l'agot 1, Golden Water 2. Ruffiania 3. Scratched : Haurakia. Rigo Park. Maryland. Time 3.21 sees. Braeburn, Vascular, St. Fire and Birkful fell.

Nursery Handicap.—Three 1, Rangitero 2. Bonny Dream 3. Scratched: Desert Gold, Asterias, Recoi'ded. Won by a length; third three-quarters of a length behind. Time lmin lsec.

Maiden Hack.—Multegarde 1. .Mossman 2, St Omer 3. Won by a length Time 1 min 16secs.

Porangahau Handicap.—Crosens 1. Dinner Gong 2. Tete a Tete 3. Scratched :Chortle, Beldam, (Jastalia. Won by a neck; length and a quarter hehind next pair.

The now firebell ordered by the Levin Borough Council some months ago arrived at the Levin railway station

yesterday.

A first-offence drunkard was at Court this morning before Mr Goldsmith, J.P. defendant pleaded guilty. He was convicted and discharged. Constable Long-bottom has received word of his promotion to Inglewood. He will leave Levin towards the end of next week. He lias proved himself a zealous officer during his long stay in Levin.
