THE IMPROVEMEVI'S BEING MAI3E The King's Theatre, the home of ths cinematograph in Levin, is just now in the process of renovation For the past few months it has been felt and sccu that the fine series of Lyric pictures projected on the screen should have a building more in keeping with tliein. Beautiful pictures should have appropriate surroundings. With a view to attaining this end the management decided to carry ouT extensive internal improvements, and the carpenters already have the work In band and at present are putting in the ceiling. This is of heavy mill board panelling. the panel connecting the ceilinf, and thp Wall being arched. The colour is a very light grey. The walls will have a match board dado five feet high, and" above that to the ceiling lined and hung with paper of artistic design. Classic figures will be painted in the panels of the proscenium. Special attention is to be given to the lighting, and four clusters of Osram lamps, three in each cluster, of a total candfe-power of 840. are being installed. They will be placed bigb up against the light grey ceiling" and a fine .soft lighting effect will Be obtained. The seating accommodation will be greatly improved and 200 Belgian chairs will be placed in the theatre, the best and most comfortable of the present cushioned seats being retained in front. The floor is to be thoroughly planed and smoothed and made fit for dancing. Behind the stage a supper room will lie fitted up and gas-cooking appliances, sink, etc.. provided. All the doors will be made proof against the entry of light, and a most efficient scheme for the perfect ventilation of the building will be carried out. The lantern room also is leceiving attention and everything is being made firm so as to prevent the slightest oscillation and prevent flicker. A powerful electric beTl set up outside will signal the commencement of the entertainments, and their resumption after half time. When the improvements now in hand are carried out Levin will have a picture theatre equal to any outeide the large centres. The opening night has been fixed for Monday next.
