The Board of Education has approved the proposal of tlio Shannon School Committee to grant a holiday to the «chool children on April 28, on tho occasion of the sports in aid of the Bel--tgian Relief Fund.

On Wednesday afternoon Miss Monks, a lady who is interested in Dr Barnado's Homes gave an address on the work of the Homes to the children of the Shannon school. Since Miss Monk has been advocating the claims of this good work 5000 children have joined the Barnado's Homes' League. In Mr Gunning's shop window may -be seen three magnificent stags' heads. Tliov are the frrophies of the sport of Messrs Kilminster and Harris wlio shot the stags in the Wairarapa. Bowling and tennis were again in evidence on Wednesday afternoon. There was a match for the president and vicepresident's trophy. Shnnkland and Mitchell (skip) were beaten by Hensman and Roach (skip) by 16 to 25. This match was the concluding one of the tournament and thus Roach and Hcnsman carry off the medals presented' by Mr Fargher and Mr Galland. While the game was in progress other members of the club devoted themselves to improving tlie green by removing the weeds from it. An interesting event took place in

Longburn on Wednesday. This was V&*' tho marriage of two esteemed residents of Shannon. I\Fi.ss Harris (who has been housekeeper for Mi's Carter for many years past) was united in wedlock to Mr Aldorsev, an employee of the Shannon Meat- Company. Tiio ceremony took place at tho residence of Mrs Weill. Miss Nellie Harris, sister of the bride, footed as bridesmaid, and Mr ,T. Bovis was be.st man. The woniony was performed by the Rev. •f. Crawford. Tho happy couple went to Wellington for their honeymoon.
