Reference was made in our issue of yesterday to. a fatality at Ohau rivermouth. Details now available show that a squad of lads from the Weraroa Training Farm wore encamped at the beach, under Mr Hinton, one of the assistant masters. Deceased (a fifteen-year-old lad named Andrew Davis) went to the river with two other boys to wash himself; Davis went into tho river for a swim, and called the other lads, but they refused to join him. (It may be explained here that it is a breach of the school regulations for any lad to go into the river for swimming purposes unless by permission of a master, who must be in attendance to safeguard the swimmer). Davis swain across the river and started to come back again, but when half way back J he sank. His companions on the bank thought he was trying to "touch bottom," and it was not till he had risen | and gone down again that they ran ! to give the alarm. The_ master in charge of the camp hurried down and made a thorough search, but the water was discoloured and he could see no trace of Davis. Later in the day the locality was draggod with a not. by Mr Duncan, a ro-idont in the neighbourhood, hut tho body is still undiscovered. Deceased was a Southland boy. 1\ was thp steamer ffespen-s That 'niled tho wintry son. Out the skipper hold had nn awful cold And was sad as sad could be.
