Levin Chamber of Commerce.
I MONTHLY MEETING. TJic ordinary monthly meeting of the Levin Chamber of Commerce was hold in the Council Chambers last evening. There wero present: Messrs K S. Lancaster (chairman, A. Dempsey, J. ltoberteon, G. Kelly. G. P. Brown ami A. G rover. A letter was received lroin the Min- ! ister of Lands, the Kti Hon. W. F. M.assey. acknowledging the receipt of tho Chamber'* request to the Government not, to sell any more land on the Tararua ranges, and that the bush be preserved for climatic purposes. *io -Minister, in reply to the request, stated that the matter would receive the careful consideration of the Government when dealing with tho land in qnestioli. Mr W. H. Field, MM , ., wrote than ing the Chamber for its letter ing the Chamber's thanks for his efforts in connection with the stoppage of the* Main Trunk train at Levin. A letter for more definite tion with regard to flic "unsatisfactory" condition of tho telephones, was received from Mr H. H. Cork. Particular instances as to where the telephone is not in good working order also wore asked for 'by Mr Cork' in order that ho could have the trouble remedied. The. chairman and Mr Robertson, appointed at la.st meeting to wait on Mr J. R. McDonald in connection with tho TCawiu block, reported that they had been unable to see Mr McDonald since. Mr Biown movo tlthat the Chamber expresses its regret that those traders who complained at the action of the Defence Department in letting the tenders for supplies to the military camp on the racecourse at Weraroa (such tenders allegedly being below the wholesale cost) have not come before the chamber and made a specific complain, and submitted proof in support of such complaints. Through lack of proof, the chamber is unable to make objection to the practice followed by the Defence Department. The chairman .seconded the motion and it was carried unanimously. Mr ,7. W. Thompson was elected a member. Tho next meeting of tho Chamber ""ill be the annual meeting.
