CORRESPONDENCE.
Tlie Horowhenua County Council ie holding its usual monthly meeting today in the Council Chambers, thi chairman Councillor G. "Watson presiding. The following correspondents has been received and is being deal! with. A draft of certain clauses relating to the storage of dangerous goods .>as received from the Wellington Ifire Underwriters' Association. The Association suggested that they be adopted aw by-laws to apply to the district under the Council's control. Mr W. M. Finlayson, of Shannon, asked for an increase of (3d per lamp per month for the lighting oTShannon, I His request was made owing to the increased cost of carbide and the necessaries of life. He also stated that he would prefer the business of sexton were separated from that oF lighting; it was an imposition on good nature. Mrs Emma Muir, of Te Hero, wrote asking that the path in front of her shop be filled with metal. The manager of the Tararua Newsnst applied for a share of the Council's advertising. A letter was received the^Hoiir r-ohgii Mi- W. H. Field, M.P., in reference to the completion of the metalling of a road which gives access to Mrs Andrews's property at Heatherlea settlement. He stated that the block was loaded with £660 for roading when it was cut up, and this had been expended. It was lot an unusual thing for the amount of loading to prove insufficient for rohl- - The usual practice was for metalling to be provided on a £l for £1 basis, and if Mrs Andrews would persuade the Council to make application for a £1 for £1 subsidy to complete the work the application would be duly considered when the Public Works Estimates were compiled next session. Mr Eraser agreed with Air Isold's suggestion to Mrs Andrews that sITe confer with others who inight be interested in the proposal for other access to Iter property through a Maori TilocTf and make representation to the council. Tf desirable the Government could be approached with a view to contributing to the cost. Mr .J. P. T/uke. Mayor of Wellington, wrote inviting the Council to cooperate in the formation of a central committee for the control of the Belgian relief funds.
