The Military Camp.

• • ENTERTAINING THE TROOKS. On Tuesday evening a fairly w-el attended meeting was held in th< Century Hall to consider what stept should be taken to entertain the troop* during the time of their encampment on the racecourse next week. Hit meeting was called by the "Mayor (Mi B. R. Gardener) who presided. An apology was received from the Rev. W. H. E. Abbey. The Mayer explained the object of the meeting. He regretted that there was not a larger attendance-. He considered that a committee could be set up to work with the authorities and get up military sports and l'n other ways help to entertain the visitors to the district. He moved "That a committee be rot up to arrange for military sports during the visit of the troops to Levin.' Dr Davies seconded the motion, lie expressed the opinion that the committee also should be empowered to make some public "recognition of the men who were leaving for the front. The suggestion made by Dr Davie* was added to the resolution and the (attor agreed to. Mrs H. Walker stated the steps' that Lad been taken by the Ladies Auxiliary of the Y. M. O. A. towards providing entertainments for the visitors. The Cent-M-yHall had been engaged and it was hoped to fill each evening with concerts, games etc. and provide refreshments. A letter was received from Mr B Ling of Otaki stating that he would like to bring up a team of entertainers and give an entertainment on one evening.
