Mr Cholmondely, the inspector of noxious weeds, bad a batch of Cape and Parihaka Maoris "up" for not clearing noxious weeds (says the Opunake Times). The Maoris had recognised their responsibility and came to the court with a clear report that they ''had cut liim" the ragwort. The inspector did not press tor a penalty where the land was cleared after they had been "blistered."
