THEFT OF OIL DRUMS

JXiirhig tho stay of tho steamer Tainui at Lyttelton a number of drums of oil disappeared. Yesterday the police visited the premiss 0 f Rudolf Anderson, a sail maker and a well-known resident. He denied all knowledge of the drums and a search seemed hopeless until the police discovered an aperture in the ceiling, iand inside were eleven drums. The police subsequently ari<i.s'_-od Robert Helni.stalk and Thomas Jones on a charge of theft of the drums. Anderson wan also arrested on a charge of receiving stolen Tlifcy were remanded till
property. Wednesday.
A CHILD'S DEA TH

A child named Raymond Knrifrht. aged It months. whose parents reside in Kussell-street, Ponsonbv, ate soap in the bathroom. Despite medical attention the child died shortly afterwards. An analysis of the soap will be made prior to the inquest.
