Lime=Sulphur Sprays.

111 .Science Bulletin Mo. V-i issued ir.yt month by the Mew South Waive Department of Agriculture, Mr A. A. Ramsay, assistant clienii.st to the Department, treats of the manufacture ol lime-sul-phur sprays. An the result oi' the many experiments he came to the following conclusions:— The best proportion of lime and sulphur: 1 part of lime to 2 parte of sulphur. In preparing lime-sulphur solutions by boiling together lime, sulphur ami water the maximum .sulphur he was able to got and keep in solution was :!:init 18.3 or 18.4 grams per 100 <:.■•. corresponding tu 183.81b of sulphur pev 100 gallon* of water. The result is obtained by- iising the formula 501bs pure lime. • KlOlbs pure sulphur, 50 gallons water boih :! for one hour, and tlie cost of tho pre]>ared spray is about 4d per gallon. Using more than 50 gallons of wa-tor in the formula, is not to be recommended from an economic point of view, for while it is true that the increased use of water gives a slightly increased percentage of lime and sulphur in solution, the cost of obtaining it is out of proportion to the benefits derived. The -10-80-50 formula is very similar to the one recommended but giviY* a much weaker solution. 122 gallons of this being equal to 100 gallons of tho formula proposed. In preparing linie-suiphur solution '25 gallons of water appear to be the minimum quantity of water that nan be advantageously used for 501 bs lime and lOOlbs sulphur. Tf this be .lone and '25 gallons more water added, a solution is obtained -which closely approximates that obtained by the 50-100-50 formula. In preparing these solutions the fluid must lie boiled briskly and yet cautiously : otherwise discrepancies in tho composition of the resulting isolu-tion will occur.
