Roe (as Levin secretary to the fund) is in receipt ol the following letter):— Dear Sir,—l have to report that His Excellency the Governor. the Earl of Liverpool, has receivd by mail acknowledgment of the various (contributions which have been forwarded to London in (connection with the above fund. tip to the present the .sum of £37.358 has been transmitted for Belgian relief and £28.612 Per the poor of Great Britain and Ireland. Yerv grateful acknowledgments of the contributions have been made. His Excellency CoiMit De Lalaing, Belgian Minister, under let--ler of Ist January to the New Zealand High Commissioner, says, "I shall he glad if you will kindly convey to His Kxcelloncy the Governor of New Zealand, and to all kind donors my most grateful thanks for their continued help, which is so deeply appreciated by niy suffering countrymen, and will ever he remembered by tliem." The ■treasurer to H.R.H. the Prince of Wales writes: Buckingham Palace, 31st December, 1914: "I am desired by the Prince of Wales to thank you for the cheque which you have forwarded to Ihe National Fund on behalf of His Excellency the Governor of New. Zealand . His Royal Highness was extremely gratified at receiving this rplendid addition to the "Fund, and wished me to write you a special letter asking you to make known t-o the Rtib- ■ cribers how warmly His Royal Highness appreciates the generous support which he has received from New ZeaI 'nd." A conference is to be held ■shortly with the objeet ot directing as far as possible the efforts to assist Belgium through one recognised channel in order that contributions shall be rejwlnr as long as assistance is required.
