THE COST OF LIVING.

Sir, —Anyone leading the remarkable remarks oi Councillors Parker, Prouse, Mackenzie and Blenkhorii oil the cost ol living will, 110 doubt, be struck by the amount ol knowledge of ecwinios that these gentlemen did not display. In the first place this writer is not <jo'ing to attempt to convince Councillor Parker; that task he leaver to someone capable ol persistant lunniuwing, but the figures of Jleesre l'jyjf&e and Blenkhorn are more deserving is they do display some intelligence. With .Mr Prouse "he (the farmer) has to pay high prices fox pig feed. and sell his pork for -Id per lb." Mr Blenknoru •says "the shopkeepers charge Is 2d per lb for bacon." Writer wonders who get« the extra lOd between the producer and the consumer, and if this doesn't look like exploitation. Mr Blenkhorn caii raise bacon at (jjd per lb. Here's a chance for our worthy brother ; let him .start a bacon factory in Levin; he would knock spots off the shopkeepers and coin money as well. Well. iSir, "larf. 1 ha' thought I'd a' died." Wonder if any of these gentlemen ever consider how workers in the city would house a pig, buy a pig or how. with pig-feed' so dear, could they feed a pig, when they themselves have such a bitter struggle to live and keep their little ones. The trouble about pigs, sir, is that there are too many of them in the country. •Some of them sit in lngli places and control the people's food supplies and the means wherebv people live.-—I am. etc..
