The market for potatoes jreniains steady, and the supply gwd, iu both quantity aud quility. The present rainfall many have the effect of temporarily shortening supplies and iicrease prices, meanwhile. Onions are now available from (South at low rates and fair business is passing. We still continu-e to quote fowl wheat at 7s lid bushel, which'is below the price it can be landed at to-day. AVe do not intend to increase the price so long as our present stocks last. Oate havo taken a further rise consequent on • e removal of the duty in Australia. The further is, however, not certain. Barley is quoting at high rates. Isla id maize of excellent quality is now available. Seed Algerian oats are in exceptionally good demand. We have now fair quantity to offer for immediate delivery. Good business is '. eingdone in grass seed. Chaff is offer-
ing more freely, but there is a hardening tendency in values. AVhait straw is plentiful, but oaten very hard to procure. The dry weather is responsible for the fact that farmers are retaining their oaten straw for stock feed. This same cause has also brought a big demand for Molasses ior cattle feeding. Porkers are in good demand, but suckers aro rather dull of sale at lower prices. Eggs are slightly higher. New honey 7s enquired for, and would meet ready sale.
Vegetables.—Cabbages sell readily. Ohoice Tines of cauliflowers are scarce, and small lines offering realise satisfactory preies. Green peas are offering in small quantities. Beans are Higher and choice lines are scarce lettuces, are in good demand at satisfactory rates. Swedes are in fair sale. All root vegetables meet ready sale. Celerv meet fair demand.
Fruit.—Choice dessert and cooking apples are in good demand and prices have advanced for good green cookers. Cooking and dessert pears meet ready Bals. Auckland passion fruit are arriving regularly, and are in good demand There is good demand for ripe tomatoes, and from enquiries made growers In Hutt districts are experiencing difficulty in getting their crops ripe.
