Williams's house was the first to go and its occupants had a narrow- escape; the husband being slightly singed. The water supply ivas inadequate and the brigade was unable to urovent the llames from spreading. J^ FOUND DEAD. Joseph Wat oil bury, aged 53, a Tanner it Yaldhurst, was found dead un Rio:arton racecourse yesterday. Heart : ailuro is presumed. BISHOP GRIMES. Advices received locally state that Jishop'Grimes has undergone an operition for appendicitis in Sydney. His wudition is serious. FINED FOR STREET BETTING. Napier .This Day. John McKeiizie and Charles Morris i-ei-e fined £30 and £20 respectively for treet betting. OLD MAN BURNED TO DEATH. Greymnuth. This Day. An old man named Koenan was l.urnd to death in his hut at Cobdeu this aorning.
