SOUTHERN GRAIN AND PRODUCE

MARKET.

Messrs Parker and Vincent have "c----ceived the following report from their • Christchurch agents:— Oats.—The market has experienced another sharp advance owing to the removal of the duty in Victoria. Than , seems to be a genuine scarcity for present requirements and we find it extremely difficult to purchase suppluThe prices for good Gartons to-day is -Iμ 5d to 4s Gd. f.o.b.s.i. with very tew sellers. Australian has apparently bought a fairly large quantity of oats from New Zealand and merchants experienco great difficulty in covering contracts. Inquiries containue to reach here from the other side and we hardly know where fhc market is coing to. Algerian oats are selling at tremendously high prices viz fis 6d to 0s 9d. and the demand is not nearly satisfied. As this particular variety is so scarce we quite expect a 7h market xn bo established at any time now. Duns oats are now rapidly rising ;n value and we presume are wanted to take the place of Algerians. The quotation to-day is 5s 1.0.b.5.i. Danish and Sparrow-frills are practically unobtainable. Cliaff.—Tn sympathy with oats, this market lias .nfco advanced appreciably. Sales have taken place during the past week at ,C 7 f.o.b.s.i. but today's value is £7 ss. Fowlwnent.—Our prices to-day is 7'; 3d. fobsi but there is not a very •irent demand. Part-ride Pens.—A very keen inquiry and the prices is Firm at 7s fobsi. Potatoes.—The Canterburv potatoes ar "hardly ready for shipment yet. Business has been done ?<>v April-May delivery at £5 5s f.0.b.5.i.. The crops are patchy and as the acreage shows a decrease as compared with last year, we expect prices to rule fairly high right through the season. Australia is also sending inquiries.
