Eriiest Varley, a. grocer, residing in Dominion-road, had a sensational encounter with two burglars at midnight last night. He was sleeping on the shop premises .and heard a till open in the adjoining shop. Shortly after lie heard a key inserted in the 'ock of his front door, which also was fastened with a bolt. Varley slipped out of bed, released the bolt, and two men entered. Varley covered the burglars with a. revolver, ordering them to put up their hands. Ho states that one of the burglars drew a revolver, whereupon he (Varley) fired, shooting the man through the arm. Both burglars bolted out. and Varley "Followed them across a vacant section and captured the wounded man whom he escorted to the police station where he was placed under arrest. The second burglar escaped. The name of the prisoner is Eric Street, a well-built man, six feet tall.
