Sulphur Lime and Salt Wash.
This is an all round winter wash for all kinds of deciduous fruit trees, and is an exceedingly effectual remedy for white 6cale, inose and lichen growths, and the various bark rungi aftcaking the trunk, and main branches of the citrus trees, but is too strong unless -much diluted. It is made as follows: Take 401b of unslacked lime 201b sulpher, 151bs salt, and 50 gallons of water. To mix, take 101b lime, 201b sulphur and 20 gallons ot water.; boil for not less than 1£ hours, or until th<? sulphur is thoroughly aissolved in a strong iron (not copper) boiler, when the mixture will be of a brownish colour- Slack the 301b of lime in a barrel with hot water, and when tiioroughly slacked, but still boiling, add the 151b of salt; when this is dissolved, the whole should Be added to the linme and eulphur in the boiler and tho whole boiled for half an hour longer, when water, to make up the whole 50 gallons should he added. Strain I through a wire sieve, and keep well stirced whilst in use.
As this mixture is very hard on the hands, use gloves wlien spraying, and have good hamboo extensions fit?s3 m the host attached to the spray pump and nozzles, so see that the pump is kept clean, and is never put away without "being rinsed out with hot water.
