small lot of this barley on the Farn some years ago, but it was distributee; among other State farms mid the pur ity of the seed lost. Lasi winter tin order for the present lot was seni through the High Commissioner in London, and is the only Azov barley in the Dominion at present. For winter feed it is unrivalled, being of exceptionally strong growth.
A general meeting 01 tlio Horowhe uua Ratepayers' Association was held in tho Druids' Hall last evening. Mr J. MeLcavey presided. A long li.sciission took place on the question ol the suppression of noxious weeds and the repair of the county roads. it was considered that the attention ■ 1 the inspector under tho Noxious Weeds Act should he drawn to the practice oi some people who throw weeds and rubbish off their property on to the roadside, and in this way spread many undesirable weeds about the country. Those present formed themselves into a cbmmittw to further the objects of tho Association. Mr J.' C. Neill was elect ed secretary in place of .Mr A. Horrobin, who resigned, it being Tils inteution of joining the reinforcements for the front. Other matters were dealt with and the meeting adjourned.
On Tuesday evening u hearty welcome wa.s accorded to Captain and Mrs Bro.vn by the members of the local Salvation Army Corps. A public reception was held in the senior hall when sever,ii of the comrades expressed now pleas3d they were to welcome their ney officers into their midst. Mrs Brown expressed her thanks i'or the Kindness shown also for the creditable way in which Captain Bower had left their home The Captain then read a few verses o c Scripture and gave a short but thrilling address, and all present were '• -
vited to a. supper prepared in the Young People's Hall. A hearty vote of thanks was tended the comrades by Hie Captain for the dainty spread arranged, and kind words spoken. The evening was brought to a close in prayer.
