LEVIN BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of the Levin Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers last evening. There were preset,: The Mayor (Mr B. R. Gardener WCouncillors E. S. Lancaster, D. W. Matheson, A. Dompsey ,K. Prouse, xi. B. France, M. Fosella, D. S. Mackensie and C. Blankhorn.
Leave of absence was granted to Councillor Parker who is absent in the South Island on business.
Councillor France inquired if a letter had been received in reply to the one sent by the Council to the Minister of Internal Affairs two months ago ;ii reference to the Horowlienua Lake Domain. The Town Clerk replied in the negative and he was instructed to write to the Department asking tor a ropTy. Councillor Blenkhorn Drought up the question of the council supporting the movement to nationalise the Belgian Relief Fund. He moved tliat this council recommends to the Government the desirability of donating a regular monthly contribution to the Belgian .Relief Fund. The Mayor said he was in sympathy with the proposal. People seemed to be afraid that the Germans wo.iid take over the food supply intended for the Belgians, but lie did not think' there was any danger of that. Hie Belgian Commission had entire charge of the distribution of the foodstuffs lo the Belgians. He seconded the motion.
Councillor France said that a fund raised by the Government was a more equitable way of raising the money than by private contributions. Councillor Lancaster supported the motion. Tho motion was carried.
