CANTERBURY GRAIN MARKET. Christennrcli, Feb. 23. Tho wheat market is very firm and there are reports of slight advances on last week's rates, but tho principal buyers have not given more money, Hunters and Tuscans changing hands cniefly at 6s 7d to 6s Sd, and pearl at 5s 9d at country stations, tho higher ligiu-e being in the ease of short railage. ' The Hesperos has arrived nt Lyttelton from Canada witli 100,000 bushels of wheat, buit as her arrival is later than was expected, and the harvest is at least three weeks earlier than last year, and wheat is in unusually good milling condition, the imported wheat is not urgently required, though no doubt it will be specially good for mixing purposes. Only part of the Hesperos's wheat is for Christchureh. and the balance for the south. l'lour has advanced £1 per ton nnd is now quoted at £16 10s p-er ton f.o.b. The oats market is still advancing and the reason generally given is that forward .sellers are short in their requirements, and the present active demand is therefore not a consumptive one. A grade Gartons have been bought at 3s !)d to 3s 10d. and B grade 3s 7d to ."5.S 80 : while for Algerians Is 3d to Is 4d is being paid at coumtrv .stations. There is no change in oatsheaf chaff or potatoes. There is .some enquiry tor partridge peas, and it is stated that 5s 6d has been paid .but for export they are said to oe not worth moi'p. £han 5.5.
