We attacked the Austrians southeast of Stanisl voff and drove off two brigades at the bayonet point, taking prisoner 20 officers and 1000 men and captured several machine guns. DEFENCE OF HUNGARY.
Hungarian newspapers state that, the military authorities have consructed a series of trenches on the plains between Bnda Pesth and the Carpathians, and are advising Hungarian* '■> refrain from panic. The press le clares that even if the Russians succeed in traversing the Carpathians they will find the march to Budn PeoUi besot with immense military difficulties.
