An Oamaru correspondent informs the Otago Daily Times that some cutting of grain crops was done in North viago last week, and that harvest work W?il become more general this week. Several threshing bills will commence operations, chiefly with oats, tliougft Tfew lota of wheat will also be threshed. The general report from the country is that all cereals will yield much better than was expected a few weeks ago, and that the quality of both the wheat and. oats will be first class, consequent upon the grain having gained plumpness because of the moisture supplied by good' rains. A decided frost was experienced in Palmerston and Feilding one day last week, damage being done by it to many tenuor plants. Around Levin somo Tomato and pumpkin plants looked as though they had had a set-back on the same morning, but the thermometer remained a few degrees above freezing point. At the hearing of the petition in connection with Hawke's Bay seat it was discovered while the informal papers were being examined that one informal vote at No. 2 booth and eight from No. 15 were missing. After
diligent search by the Returning Officer he reported that he was unable '0 find them.
