An inquest was held at Wellington on Thursday on the body of David Scott who fell off the train between Otati and Waikanao on Monday and died from injuries at OtakT. Henry Maitland. a builder, said he spoke to Scott on the carriage, platform and asked "Are you waiting for a seat. Mr Scott?" Deceased replied. "Oh, no; 1 am in a bit of a mess."' and as the train was making some noise witness understood deceased to say that he was troubled, as the young 1;k1v passenger who should have been with him had missed the train at Levin. Deceased added that he meant to get out at the next stop and walk back some miles. The iron platform gates were closed where deceased stood. A verdict iras retujmed that death was due to injuries reoeived through accidentally talking off the train.
