Wellington, This Day. Xho Government announces that applications will be invited immediately for appointment as official New Zealand War correspondent, ana he will be despatched to England t>y the New Zealand Government alter his name is approved by the Imperial authorities. Experience in journalism will be a necessary qualification and a knowledge of languages, through not essential, will give priority where oElier qualifications are equal. The Government uope to have assistance from leading journalists in the final selection and definition of duties. The salary wiU i/o between £400 'and £500 pel' annum, with liberal travelling allowances at the lront and less in England. It is perposed that the correspondent, except lie is in Egypt, shall send his letters 10 the High Commissioner, who will cable any extracts of sufficient interest, and the correspondent may himself telegraph to the High Commissioner, but not direct to New Zealand. The letters will then •be sent on to New Zealand, where they will be distributed ■ •■y mail by the Press Association to all papers desirous of receiving them, whether they are members of the association or not. It is hoped that distributions to the daily papers may prove sufficient and that the others will consent to reprint the letters from their daily contemporaries. Papers which wish to have the letters, therefore should make applications to the Manager of the Press Association at Wellington. The Government's memorandum on the subject ends with the following paragraph. The last thing which the men who have volunteered for service abroad desire, is that the official correspondent, should have as iiis duty, provision for the publication of grievances, or scaudals, or complaints. His function will be to record the history of the part taken by the New Zealand Forces in the great struggle in which they are about to take part.
