When returning thanlis to Mr Drysdalo at the close of the visit of the Waikanae branch oi' the .farmers' Union to the Experimental Farm at Weraroa on Saturday last, Mr Fieftl announced that the Government had arranged to purchaso Mr Bartholomew's property opposite the Experimental Fa,rm on the Beach road, containing about 100 acres. The negotiations for this purchase with which 3lr Field has been concerned for some months past are now complete, mid the property will be submitted to the public in small areas fit a very early dato, probably in a few weeks. The land is admirably adajted for fruit growing. In connection with this purchase it may be mentioned that the students quarters at the Experimental Farm are far too restricted, accommodating as they do only sixty lads. At the they have excellent accommodation, and of a most up-to-date character, 'or a. much larger number oi students thin are housed at the Weraroa Farm, but the Superintendent, Mr Primrose McDonnell recently stated, that he finds that the accommodation would have to be much extended if the demand being made by students for places was to be substantially adopted. At the Weraroa Experimental Farm, as we have said the students' quarters are far too ° stricted. If Mr Bartholomew is willing "to sell, and the Government willing to purchase, why could not . Mr Bartholomew's residence be utilised for this purpose, though it is some little distance away. Now that tTio land

purchased this matter should receive consideration. Tho building could bp utilised ill ite present position. or it could be moved to a location on i'ie Espermi mental Farm; or it may be pre build additional quarters cfn the farm.
