PAROCHIAL POLITICS.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —1 was much amused to load the account of fue Chamber of Commerce • in youir issue of tlio 10th to iiiid to what extent parochial politics can be carried. I refer to the resolution proposed by Mr Mathc&on to the eftoct that the A. and P. Society bo approached with the intention, of getting them to hold their Show on the Levin Park Domain instead of on tho racecourse where it has been lor years. Would any sane man, unless blindod by parocialism, dream of .such a thing? The show is at present iield on an ideal spot for such purposes. 'JJjo "grounds are all that could be dfe»ired. Thei'e is a first-class grandstand, a racecourse for pony racing and steeplechasing, etc., which are two ol' tho most attractive items in tho Show. In addition to ull this tho necessary buildings are erected for tho Show, and the cattle and sheep pens alone would cost fully £100 to erect on a new ground, and for what purpose? Merely to suit the parochial whims of Mr Matheson. If he is ■ so anxious to have a show at his back door, why not make a. little show for himself in his own bacK yard. The present grounds are admirably adopted for tho show and also convenient to the railway station. Mr Alatheson must understand that this is a Horowheuua Show and other parts ol the district have to be considered besides Mi' Mathesons' backyard. It is such small mindedness as this that throws a damper on nearly everything that has been started in the district and in consequence hinders the district from going ahead as it should. The same thing happened with the Poultry Association and also the intended bacon factory. J thought it was time that such parochialism had died out and regret very much to find it is still rampant among us. This is not the only time the same gentleman has acted in like spirit. Some little time ago it was moved in + .lie .Borough Council that the old firebeil < b© shifted to AVeraroa and a new one purchased for Levin. This was also ( objected to by him stating Weraroa , deserved no more consideration than i any other part of the borough, which 1 everyone knows to be sheer nonsense, and which was fully explained in a , previous letter. lam quite convinced i the A. and P. Association will treat tile < proposal with the contempt it deserves. ( Trusting you will publish this, Mr Editor, ill the interests of the show.—l s am, etc., , A MEMBEB. ,
