Palmerston North is sending two teams of bowlers to play Levin lomoivrow afternoon, comprising E. Nash, J. Brow, G. Larking, H. Hodgson (skip),P. Nash ,B. Pratt, C. Warden, W. Crump (skip). The teams arrive here at 2.10 p.m. Last Thursday Arthur Williams, a noted pickpocket, was before the Magistrate's Court, at Wellington. Detective Mcllveny said that accused had oered him £100 to let him escape from custody, and when the offer waa refused Williams bad paid an unconscious tribute to the detectives of New Zealand by exclaiming: f 'No wonder you are poor and detectives in other countries own terraces of houses!" Suddenly an interruption came from the body of the court. "Oh! Don't say any more! Don't eay any morel" It was the young wire of the accused man. who. crying bitterly, had to be -emoved from the room.
