Ll'BR TRESS ASSOCIATION.! A PLATELAYEK IvILLED. Taihape, This Day. This morning a heavy engine on the way from Taihape to Taumaruuui ran into a jigger on the line a mile from Taihape. H. S. Thomas, a platelayer, was knocked off the jigger and killed as a result of the injuries received. Deceased was about thirty years of age and leaves a widow and a sixmouths' old baby.

At a meeting of the Boot Repairers' Association it was stated that since the outbreak of the war tho price >f leather had increased 25 per cent. Tho tanners in tho Dominion would not reduce prices because they could get in London what price they demanded, from New Zealand bootmakers. It was agreed that members would be compelled' to raise the prices for the manufactured article.
