At the Magistrate's Court Ernest Maltravers sued Sarah Jane Day a widow, for £100, which he alleged lie lent to her to pay off a mortgage, the money to be a free gift if they married, if not, it was to ho repaid without interest. He said that thev had been engaged, but "defendant had' cooled and finally broke off the engagement. He denied Tiaving ever threatened defendant with a. revolver. Defendant denied that the money was n Toan. She stated that it was a free gift. NW date for the marriage had over heen fixed. Plaintiff came io lior house unexpectedly and asked her to marry him at once. She refused and he threatened her with a revolver. Mr Kettle, S.M., said that plaintiff's testimony was more reasonable. She evidently wm a clover woman and h,a fool. Judgment- was for plaintiff for £100 and costs 29 4s.
