Fat cattle were filrm, and store sheep showed practically no change, good forward lambs being in keen demand. Fat lambs were rather easier, the quality showing a falliugoff. BURNSIDE MARKET

Dunedin, Feb. 3. At Burnside to-day 237 fat cattle were yarded. The sale was a bit slow at the beginning, but export buyers were operating and prices kept firm at last week's rate. prime heavy bullocks made £16 to £19, medium £13 15s to £14. light and unfinished £8 ■•Oβ to £11 10s, prime cows and heifers £T2 to £13 10s, medium £9 to £10 10s, light and inferior £5 15s to £8 10s. Fat sheep.—3o77 were penned. The quality taken all over was much on * par with last week, the major portion of the entry being made up of medium quality wethers and ewes. Freezing buyers wore operating keenly and secured a large number of sheep. This bad a steadying effect on the market and kept prices firm at a shade better than last week's rate. Prime wethers made 25s to 265. extra to 295. medium to good wethers 23s to 24s Od, light IDs Od to 21s Gd, prime owes to 15s, extra to 20s. medium to #ood 20s to 22s (id, light and inferior T7s to 19s.

Fat lambs.—266l were penned, making the largest entry of the season. The quality was quite as good as that which came forward last week, with an odd pen of extra prime. Competition by freezing buyers was very keen, and prices wore, if anything, firmer than latt week. Prime 21s to 24s 3d. medium 18s 6d to 20s. light and inferior 18s :3d to 17e 6d.

CmiISTCHUROH MARKETS. Christchurch, Feb. 2. Farmers are now busy harvesting, and tlu'io is therefore little grain on offer, but in the course of ii week or so it is expected that offering- will be free Several sales of wheat are reported at 6s to 6s 3d at country stations for immediate delivery. Millers are >equring some new to mix with old imported grain, and it is stated that they are not buying for any distance forward. Oats arc readily saleable and any lines that are offering are freely taken, but during thp last W days there have been few offered. The grass seed coming forward e not of very good quality, and the market is very firm. Sales have been made at 4s to 4s 3d at country stations. Hp to £4 5s is offered for potatoes for^ delivery in March and £4 for later delivery.
