THE IMPERIAL GOVERNMENT'S RESPONSIBILITY.
(.Received This Day, 11.15 a.m.) London, Feb. 3. In the House of Commans Mr Bonar Law said ho wished to correct a misapprehension. It was erroneously stated "that the (Government supplied the Opposition privately uitli information respecting the plans for the prosecution of the war, that therefore the Opposition to some extent shared the Government's responsibility. It must bo perfectly plain that the Opposition has no responsibility, and in criticising and refraining from criticising the actions ol the fciovermnent, it was influenced solely by what it considered the national interest. The lit. Hon. H. H. A.squit.h replied that the Government alone was responsible for the policy of tlio country, and the conduct of naval and military operations. It did not desire to abrogate, or share responsibility with anyone, -.jishirk fair, legitimate and patriotic criticism. In supplying information to the Opposition the latter was not fettered in its right to criicise. He acknowledged that the co-operation and patriotic spirit of the leading members of the Opposition was of inestimable value to the Government.
