QUIET ON THE SUEZ.

Mr C. E. W. Bean cable* that the tSeeond Australian Contingent reached Egypt in excellent condition, both 111-311 and horses. ' He reports that all is quiet on the Suez Canal. Turkish deserters are coming in. One stated that his portion of the force marched inn Jerusalem along the coastal route to El Arish, and thence along the desert roa<l to Nahkl. The officers are well feci, but the men are miserably led. Another had his hand out off. He explained that a German officer ordered him to cut a telephone wire. He protested that the wire was too high. The officer then drew his sword and hewed off I his hand. The prisoners' condition is absolutely ragged.
