The Bourse Gazette says that the Turks plundered Tabriz and burned the bazaar before their evacuation. Many Persians refusing to supply • provisions were hanged. ON THE FRENCH BATTLEGROUND Paris, Feb. 2. Tho forest of Nonnenbruch was stubbornly contested owing to deposits of potassium salts valued at sixty milliards of francs. France's deposits of l>otash have hitherto been in the hands of Gorman capitalists. A -comminnique states that yesterday the artillery struggle increased' in intensity on both sides. Portions of the German regiment drove back a British piost at Givenchy. Tho British counter-attacked, regained the lost ground and progressed beyond and captured some of the enemy's trenches. A whole battalion participated in the assault on the trenches mentioned. Our fire broke two attacks on the third, and forced an entrance of the enemy's trench. A oountcr-attack with bayonets threw the enemy imfco confusion and only a few escaped ; the remainder wore killed or captured. Our heavy calibre artillery bombarded Noyon railway station whore the enemy was rcprovisioriing, causing two explosions.

Tho High Commissioner reports.— London, Feb. 2. 6.40 p.m. The Admiralty denies that the Suez Canal has Veen closed. The traffic as usual is subject to precautions for safety. Paris reports that the artillery struggle is more intense on the Lys and the Somme. A British post was driven back, but ground was regained and the enemy's trenches captured. The action reported at midnight was a particularly brilliant infantry affair, very few Germans returning. Petrograd reports tJmt tho German offensive on Sunday in the region of Sochaeleu and Bolimow was marked by great tenacity. It was conducted .'n close formation and strongly supported' from behind. The German offensive compelled our retirement to the second line of trenches. A counter-attack repulsed the enemy from all the trenches occupied. The German casual-' ties were colossal. Simultaneously the German attacks from the village of Gevime and the hamlet of Moghelj were repulsed, partly by rifle fire' and partly by bayonet. An energetic artillery fire enabled them to occupy part of the trenches, but they were dislodged from near all the trenches later. The Gorman success in the Borzimow district were insignificant compared with the losses sustained during Sunrimy from the fire and Bayonet attacks.
