HOKLO BEACH.
(To the Editor.} Sir—The Foilding Star is warmly urging the Railway Department to run seaside excursion trains to Paekakariki. Is it not time thu tour local magnates rose t« the occasion and made a decisive move to get a good road to the Hokio beach'r . You, sir, recently pointed out that the Government had ear-marked £150 towards the construction of this road, and yet no effort is made to raise a similar amount to got the work done. Why should Levin bo silent when other places are seeking a seaside pleasure* resort? We* may not get school children to be taken to-Hokio, but with a good road would not sva-ny families come down by r.ioming trains and return to say Palinerston or Feilding by the evening train V With a good road to the beach the place would be come a popular resort tor people outside Levin; wo should enlarge the 01151ness of our cab-drivers, ami the cottages would never be empty. Tn other ways tlie town would benefit. We want someone amongst our local representatives who will open up tlie matter and have the subject debated. Tf we don't help ourselves by making an effort we shall glide into a back-block town. Coming nearer home T ask : Is it creditable that hundreds of our residents should only find the beach over 1 roupli vond It is a splendid holiday resort, and we live on as though we did not possess it.—l am, etc., FOLLOW THE DRUM.
