Several of the suppliers to the- Balance Co-operative Diary Company have (says the Wairarapa Daily Times) wived big cheques for butter-fat supplied during the month. 0i, 6 dairy iarme drew a cheque for over £500 ami two otlicre £200 each. A number received amounts for £100. The company had a rcoord pay-out, totalling £8000. -Air McFarlane, ex-chairman of directors of tho Ballance Co-operative Company, recently visited England and the Continent. He .said ] le found NewZealand butter stood in excellent favour at Home, and the prospects for both and butter and cheese were exceptionally bright- in fact, they were lievor better: Owing to the war supphes from various sources had been cut off. Moreover Denmark- had experienced a dry season, and this would prove a factor in benefitting New Zealand trade. Large quantities of produce Here needed to feed the troops. Each soldier was allowed four ounces of cheese per" day, so it looked as if cheese would do remarkably well this season. Margarine, however, was h serious competitor to butter. . It was Gold at scl and 6d a lb, and many people ha.idly recognised any difference between it and butter.
