* [By our Resident Representative.] PUBLIC LiBRAIU. The annual meeting in c/.iinectiou •with the Shannon Public Library was held on Monday evening in the Public Library. The chairman. .Mr J. burgher, presided. He gave a statinenl of tlie work during the past year. There; weic y<Jl) volumes now in the library, of which 140 were new volumes. There had been an issue of 1720 volumes during tin: year. The departure t>l _<lr Liiul had been a great loss to the library. There were M subscribers. Airs Uohaiind had been appointed caretaker in place of -Mis Mparks who had resigned. .Mr Selby had -greatly assisted tlif committee in the selection i>l iu-w bonks. The fccretniy, .\Lr C. 11. UaTTiiner, had been must assiduous in the* <li.scliu.rgu of ins duties. ■On tho motion of Mr -Mitchell, seconded by -Mr Venn, a hearty vote of -thanks was passed to Air Gardiner for during the past year. Claytim and Selby were Jippuintod a selection committee. Tin , selection committee were empowered to expend .Gf> at once in the purchase of now books. Tho .secretary was empowered to expend ,C 2 on repairs to the building fiat he found necessary. After transacting other routine business the meeting terminated. Mrs A. .liuld is recovering. .Mr Gunning and .family are going for a fortnight's holiday to llokio.
