; The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., report :— At our usual weekly sale at Levin, on Friday, Bth hist., we offered a small entry of sheep and a goodi yarding of cattle. A good clearance was effected at the following prices:— Fat ewes 20s Id to 225, fat mixed 2-tootli 18s Id. mixed 2-tooth 14s l<l. Light fat bu'loeks £10 17s 6d. fat cows £5 12s 6d, £5 15s to £6 2s; light fat heifers £5 10s; store cows £3 17s to £4; heifer -n milt £"5 ss; weaner bulls 27s 6d ; 18month 'Bulls £3 10s Bd.
HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT.
The Department of Agriculture. Industries and Commerce has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, dated London, January Qth". 1915. (Note.—QnoTations, unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot) :— Mutton.•—-A fair demand continues. Tho market is firm notwithstandnijj large receipts on account of the delay in discharging and on account of the difficulty in securing labour. Canterbury 5Jd per lb; North Island 5 7-16 d: ewes 5 3-16 d. Lamb.—The market is steady and a fair business doing. Canterbury twos 6sd per lb ; other than Canterbury 6gd ; very few of tin's season's lamb to hand and are selling slowly at 7d. Beef.—There is a fair demand 1 , for bettor grades and a limited demand for poorer grades. The market is firmer on account of purchases for the Government. New Zealand hinds. 6 5-16(1 per lb ; fores 53d ; chilled, a limited supply .Ivinds 7d per lb. fores sijd. Butter.—The market is firm with an upward tendency. A good demand for colonial butters. Danish, quiet. 150s to 1545-per cwt: New Zealand 138s to 140s; Australia 134s to 138s; Siberian, firm, a good demand, 126s to 1325; Argentine 134s to 138s. Cheese.—The market is steady and prices well mainlined 1 . Canadian white and coloured, firm, qniet 78s to 79s'per cwt; New Zealand white and coloured, firm, 76s to 775. "Estimated stocks of Canadian cheese. January Ist, 100.000 boxes against 230.000 at the same time last year. New Zealand cheese stocks. January Ist. 16.000 crates against 7000 at the same timelast year.
Hemp.—The market is rather more active for New Zealand , on aceomit of the small supply on hand.
