Oharles Brown, aged 50. who came from Hamilton, and lias since been working at Thames, committed suicide in the hospital Last night by strangling himself. Heiwas admitted a week ago suffering from delirium tremens, but was progressing well. He tore the bed clothes in a room at the shelter shed into strips and strangled himself by his own efforts. When discovered lie was practically deatl. Miedical assistance was unavailing. FIRE AT NAPIER. iNapier, This Day. Tauranga, This Day. The new railway station at Mount Alaunganui, almost completed, was burned down yesterday morning, and is a total loss to the contractors. There is no insurance. THE WEATHER AT HOKITIKA. Hokitika, This Day. The heavy rain of the past few days J caused considerable damage at the Jva- ! uiori lake in the Humphries district. On Saturday night the goklfiolds water lace was.carried away lor seven chains by the hillside. It- will take several days to repair. In the meantime electric power is stopped. The borough water pipes were also carried away. The approaches to the bridge at Coal Ureek are being washed out. On •Bluespnr and Humphries roads considerable damage is reported to culverts.
