[By our Resident Representative.] Further particulars to hand with reference to the flax fire near Moutoa show that the fire started in the Wliitanui Co.'s land 011 Sunday morning

and soon spread to the Jlatai block 011 Mr Ak|ers' property. Jiuudi<ed« of acres were soon a raging mass of flames and 200 men wo re employed to get the fire under. They succeeded cd in doing this by midnight but the damage done was very extensive including about 7000 tons of millable leaf in the Whitanui block when the fire covered 500 acres and burnt the flax cut on Saturday and stacked ready

for training. The flax burnt on Mr Akers' property was on an area of 400 acres, one. two and three-year-old. Some of the Polar Co.'s, land was also burnt.

Mr R. MoKenzie, well-known as the manager of Mr C. Ross's farm has gone to manage Mr W. 11. Field's farm at Waikanae
