SHANNON NOTES.

The fire on the banks of the Manawatu is extinguished. It covered an area of no less than 800 acres, 60 acres of which belonged to the Whitanui Flaxmilling Company and 200 acres to Mr Akers.

On New Year's Day a team of bowlers from the Shannon Bowling Club went bo Palme nston and took part in the Manawatu Bowling Oeiiire's tournament. The team consisted of Messrs Gibson, G. N. Stephenson, H. Knowles and' W. H. Gunning (skip). They spent a very enjoyable time in the city with tho big square, but were not so successful as usual in the play, scoring only one game to their credit.
