Sergeant-Major J. H. Levey, of the 3«l Wcots Guards, has the honour of being the first Jewish soldier in ihc present war to receive a commission. Ho has been promoted .to second lieutenant and adjutant in the Gordon Highladers. The cricket match for the Plunket iShiekl between Auckland and Canterbury provided an exciting finish. Canterbury required 291 to win and had knine wiokete down for 28U. With one to tie and two to win Sandman hit a. noundary and Canterbury thus won ihc fcnatch with one wicket to spare.
