EVENTS IN SHANNON

The site of the recent fire will soon present a very different appearance. It is the intention df . the owner of the'section (Mra.Oufe ran) to erect tliereon which can be used skating and the exhibition of pj<V tures. The structure, it is.sa'al, ' will cost £1000, and will be up in the latest style with all C9ll- - // The Moutoa Hockey Club played a match with Foxton B at Mou-' toa on Wednesday afternoon. The - result was a win for Moutoa by 12 points to nil. Mr Mark Downes acted as referee. LAND ASSOCIATION. A meeting of persons interested in the formation of a Land Association under the Land Settlement Finance Act was held in the Mechanics' Institute at 8 p.m. on Wednesday evening. The meeting Had been convened by Mr-T. Lind and he was elected to preside.. Mr Lind explained the object of the,meeting. They'should find a suitable block of land and . appoint a committee to apprpacli|S the owner as to terms; - VSeyieral previous attempts under this had failed Sn consequence of the" high demands of the owners of land. He read from the Act to show that five or more persons could form an association under the Act to purchase a single block of land for subdivision into five or more sections for occupation by the members in lots not less than twenty-five acres nor more than two hundred acres. No person owning land to the value of £2500 could become a purchaser under this Act. By Governor's Order in Council the purchasers were incorporated into an association, and the agreement to purchase, validated. The Public Trustee acts for the association in all monetary matters. Debentures guaranteed by the Government have 25 years currency, bearing interest jat 5 per cent. He explained the details of the financial arrangements. , Residence is compulsory except by exemption by thie Land Board. In answer to questions Mr Lind said the Land Purchase Commissioner was the judge as to an applicant being qualified. Four" per cent, of the purchase money . uul to be paid down at first, but rhis was refunded. He had two )ffers: 357 acres belonging to Mr (j. Woods, valued at £8220, or £23 per acre, and 500 odd acres belonging to Mr C. lioss, offered at. £25 per acre. Mr Murray proposed that a committee be formed to take steps to form an association, and look for a suitable block of land. Mr J. Petterson seconded .the motion, which was carried. A committee was formed to carry out the resolution and the proceedings terminated with a vote of thanks to Mr Lind for conven-' ing the meeting. There is at present on view in Plimmer Terrace, Shannon, one of the finest ranges of men's and boys' clothing to be seen any-, where. Fargher . and the drapers, are certainly specialists in this class of trade,' and their window display of suits is well, worth inspection.—Advt.
